Gallery Simon is pleased to announce Non-place Like Home, a solo exhibition of the Korean contemporary painter Ji Eun Kim on view at Gallery Simon from September 9 to October 23, 2021. Kim has worked on observing the residential environment and revealing the meaning and structure behind the landscape. These works that began in the life of the new town while she is moving into an apartment in the Housing Site Development Zone of Hwaseong City, tell us about a house that has become like a ‘non-place’ combining a new town that is out of placeness and an apartment unit that is presented as flat space with the concept of ‘non-place’ by Marc Augé. She tries to reinterpret Hwaseong City to Mars, the homonym of Hwaseong in Korean, and visualize the lives of new towns under development in various ways and contains the thoughts about living in a ‘non-place’ like home. Through this exhibition, which aims to look at the lives of new towns everywhere in the country like a robot exploring Mars with cold eyes and to diagnose them rationally, Kim would like to communicate with you about how we feel and live our lives with the ‘non-place’ that has become a huge part of our lives.
