Gallery Simon presented <Tracing Times>, an exhibition by Changwon Lee, who shows the other side of the phenomenal world by exposing the subject’s silhouette with various techniques and materials, from 5th September to 26th October, 2019. In this exhibition, the artist reflects the multiplicity of characters, events and ideologies captured in the course of history. In particular, the artist imagines the subjective experiences of individuals that exist in the great epic history of opening a port, modernization, independence, and dictatorship in Korea, and faces the history, which is continuously reproduced through monuments and mass media, from a micro perspective. After thinking about what it’s like to reflect the age and society by art, and how the plastic art’s role of social mirror works differently than other artistic genres like music, movies or novel, the artist introduces a new series of Hug Stencil. The Hug Stencil series is a set of leaving silhouettes of various hugs in news media as vestiges in three-dimensional space, a shadow that reflects contemporary history where we live here and now.
