갤러리 시몬은 시각적 힘과 동양적 철학을 바탕으로 가시성의 관습에 의문을 제기하는 작가 김신일의 개인전 “間看(In Between, Seeing)”을 9월 17일부터 11월 21일까지 개최합니다. 미술사의 이론적인 발전단계 상에서 한계점을 인식하고 이를 동양사상의 하나인 공으로 극복하고자 하는 작업들을 보여온 작가는, 이번 전시를 통해 ‘생각과 생각 사이’라는 개념이 지닌 이성, 지성을 넘어서는 가능성을 환기하는 신작들을 선보입니다.
2014년 국립현대미술관 ‘올해의 작가상’ 후보에 선정되며 한국을 대표하는 작가로 입지를 다진 김신일은 서울대학교에서 조각을 전공한 후 SVA에서 석사학위를 수여했으며, 세비야 비엔날레, 싱가폴 비엔날레, 광주 비엔날레 등 다수의 비엔날레 참가와 함께, 뉴욕의 New Museum, Queens Museum, 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, Leeum 등의 주요기관에 작품들이 소장되는 등 국제적인 주목을 받고 있습니다.
Gallery Simon is pleased to present the solo exhibition of Shin il Kim, “In Between, Seeing”, which will run from September 17th to November 21th, 2015. The artist’s practice has been dedicated to overcoming the theoretical limitations of art history by reconciling with oriental thoughts. The new works presented in “In Between, Seeing” evoke the potential of ‘gap between thoughts’, which is beyond reason and intelligence.
As being one of the nominates of ‘Korea Artist Prize 2014’, Shin il Kim has been acclaimed as one of the leading artists in Korea. The artist, majored sculpture in Seoul National University, Korea, and received his MFA in SVA in New York, participated Biennials in Seville, Singapore, Gwang-Ju. His works have been included in the collections of various institutions such as New Museum of Contemporary Art; Queens Museum of Art; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art; Seoul Museum of Art; Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art et al.
